
There are three parts to Friends Across the Ocean: a Travel Course for Students, a Travel Course for Adults, and the Pen Pal Project.

The Travel Course for Students is designed for high school students. Its aim is to develop cultural awareness and foster friendships between US and African students through an immersion experience. US students safari to Kenya, Africa and
- Attend school with Kenyan teachers and students;
- Eat Kenyan food in the school cafeteria and village homes;
- Camp on Kenyan school grounds;
- Participate in village activities;
- Explore the beautiful Kenyan countryside.
The Travel Course for Students is led by a veteran educator and traveler. The travel arrangements and itinerary are handled by Expanding Opportunities. Each Travel Course for Students is scheduled through a supporting school district. Funds are raised to pay for the course through student/school organized fund-raising activities. Interested students or teachers should contact Expanding Opportunities for Project information. Only trips planned directly through a supporting school qualify as Travel Courses.

Your Guides
Beverly Stone, president of Expanding Opportunities, is your guide to adventure in Kenya. She has been an educator for over 20 years, am international teacher in Kenya for one year, and a tour leader for two years.
Adam Stone, an instructor at Earthways School of Wilderness Living in Maine, is the trip leader. He has journeyed to Kenya and is ready to assist you during this adventure.
Rosemary Seth, member of the Kamba tribe, is our Kenyan organizer. Rosemary lives and works in Narok, Kenya.

The Pen Pal Project pairs African students with US students so they may exchange letters. Individual students, classrooms or entire schools may participate. Interested students or teachers should contact Expanding Opportunities for Project information.
