Short Stories
There are so many inspiring, unique, shocking or moving stories each day when we are in Kenya. Occasionally they are written down for all to share. We hope you enjoy these Reflections from Kenya.
Give Me 5 Shillings A story of the origins of Expanding Opportunities and a peek into the life of Street Children in Kenya.
A Tribute to Mama Mwangi
Expanding Opportunities' Children's Home is managed by Pastor and Mama Mwangi. Mama, who has raised 5 of her own children, now selflessly raises the children of the Joseph Waweru Home School.
Baobab Weavers
The artisan support project of Expanding Opportunities, purchases Fair Trade art and craft work from individuals and cooperatives and sells them in the USA at the Aina Moja shop in the Working Art Gallery in Belfast, Maine, at art and craft fairs and through three websites:
www.ainamoja.com; www.1stafricanclothing.com; and www.kangaUSA.com
During our visits to Kenya, we have the distinct pleasure to visit artisans and watch them work. This is the story of a long journey to visit the ladies who weave Baobab fibers.
Things Are Not Always as They Seem
Expanding Opportunities selects children from the millions of orphaned, rejected and destitute children in Kenya. The selection process is a painful privilege. This is a story of one child who was NOT selected.

Gotta Get It OUT!
There is a frustration that builds in a volunteer in Africa. Sometimes it just has to come out. It may not be the rational response; it may not indicate time for a change but it is raw emotion - so here it is.
Northern Kenya is a dry, vast expanse of desolate beauty filled with people who describe themselves as forgotten. Dry HopeLet it speak for itself
