A Sponsor’s Testimonial
In 2007 I called Beverly Stone and told her that I would like to help support a child within her organization, Expanding Opportunities. She connected me with John, a young boy. I helped support him through school. We would occasionally talk on the phone for a few minutes. His laughter was always contagious. He has a wonderful giggle to this very day. Once he called in the middle of the night. I thought that someone was calling with bad news. It wasn’t, it was John and his contagious laugh. Beverly had told him that he could call and he was so excited that he had forgotten about the time difference. Over the years we would send a letter with someone who was travelling to Kenya and back. Sharing life with John has been an amazing experience. A few years ago he graduated from college with his bachelor’s degree. He will soon be presented with his master’s degree. I am very proud of him. He has a partner and a two year old son. He works hard to support his family.
In January of 2019 my son and I went to Kenya to finally meet John in person. Beverly and Chege met us at the airport. The next day we were finally able to meet John. We spent about ten days there with John, Beverly, Chege and the other kids at the home. It was a wonderful trip. I consider John my Kenyan son. He will always be part of my life. I hope to make another trip there to visit him and his family. I definitely recommend becoming a child sponsor. The experience is very rewarding.
Sincerely,
